Lavender plug plants

I have just recieved 24 lavender plugs plants, please can you tell me what soil do I use to plant them into small pots to grow on and what size pots?

    Personally, I would create a little nursery bed for them in a sheltered sunny spot and line them out in a row. They will want well dug, friable free draining soil and a bit of extra TLC while they get going - keep the area weed free, water regularly etc.

    If you want to pot them use 3 inch/9cm pots with a gritty loam based compost.

     Would any of the John Innes be ok, do I have to add more grit?

    If you can get a JI no. 2 that would be fine but I would also add some fine grit or sharp sand or some perlite to the mix. About a couple of handfuls to a half bucket of soil.
