Sweet Corn Questions

i am a newbie and planted sweet corn this year, its doing well and my cobs are about 6-8 inches now but not ready yet (or so i think)....i have 2 questions....
first....the outer casings of my cobs (not sure of proper term) are red/pink in color, also my stalks of the plants are the same red/pink, is this normal?....the pictures i have seen show them being green??
second, it seems an animal (or so i think) has eaten the "hair" off the ends of some of the cobs, or maybe it has all fallen off?....will this affect their growth?
