Another Sand Question.

Hello,

I know there are many conversations about using builders sand in gardening but I struggle to fine an answer to my scenario.

I have rotavated my lawn in readiness for turfing. Can I mix in some left over builder sand into the clay to save throwing it in the skip?

The ground is heavy clay throughout and does hold water quite bad. Some advise I have had is that the sand wont hurt the grass and will help drainage.

Thanks in advance.

If it's the fine builders sand used for bricklaying, I'd say no, don't mix it in with your clay soil. I think I've read that it will only make it worse and can set solid. Something to do with the fine particles size.

It's normally grit or sharp sand that is useful around the garden.

I'd be interested to see if anyone has any suggestions for using up building sand though, as I have half a dozen leftover bags hanging around in the dumping corner.
