ID needed please

thought this might be a nice plant, have it in front and rear garden beds, looks like flower bud will turn into a lovely pink and white flower, but alas it never opens any more than in photo on any of the plants,it is about 3feet tall hardy and a strong grower,I am about to dig them up,but would like an id if possibleimageimageimage

  • Thanks dw,Had a look at gentians, cant rule them out.but would not of thought of them being that tough in uk winters, these come through anything winter throws at them, this is a picture of a stem pulled up this morning and stuck in a pot to take pic,it might be a bit clearer, hope that helps,it is over a metre tall, hope that it might help id it for certain, any more ideas welcomeimage

could we have a photo of them growing? stood back a bit so we can see the whole clump

Are they buds or finished and closed up flowers?

What are the roots like, individual plants or a joined together mass?

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • that was a good thought nut,dug up plant in pic, horrible runner type roots, might even be a weed, flower buds show as if they will be white,as they open they show a pink and white colour, they never open anymore than in earlier pics, hence my disappointment in them even more so now i have seen the invasive looking roots, but would still love an id though,no imageidea whereimage i got plant from.
