Cucumbers with spikes
in Fruit & veg
Hi
For a change this year I decided to grow cucumbers from seed, I bought some "Beth Apha" from Amazon and planted them.
One of them didnt grow as well as the rest so i removed it from the green house and replaced it with another.
The one I removed didn't get any taller but I noticed it did start to fruit. I've left it alone and picked occasionally from the green house.
Today I noticed that the outdoor plant has grown some short but thick cucumbers that have spikes on them.
Does anyone know if they are still safe to eat?

The outdoor types tend to have thicker slightly spiny skins if you peel them they should be fine to eat.
Hello. I grow a cucumber called Marketmore that has spikes on the outside.
Before eating you just rub them off and use as you would any cucumber.
They are juicy and really tasty but just a bit different.
This year I've grown crystal lemon cucumbers. They are round yellow and spikey, I just peel them as the skins are tough. They do tend to ramble around the greenhouse if allowed.
