Fast growing

I am just erecting an arch at the front of my house, south east facing.  What can I plant that is fast growing to spread over the arch please?

Resist fast growing plants, they don't stop when your arch is covered

    What's the soil like?

A photo would help produce good suggestions

  • Thanks but I do not want a bare arch!  I can always cut plants back.

The fastest growing here is Passion Flower, up the arch, all over the trellis behind, over a big shed and making its way to the garage, and that's with cutting it back ever year.

Guess you don't live in Scotland Lyn!

Jennifer80, if you give us some idea of where in the country you are, we might be able to give you suggestions. And if the arch is at your front door you will want a long season of flower as well.

Ideally you would want something that is relatively fast growing, has a long period of flower, perhaps evergreen and perhaps fragrant???

You could get 3 out of 4 with a climbing rose planted on each side with perhaps a couple of toning clematis. That would do regardless of where you are in the country. But I'm sure there will be other suggestions. You are still looking to about 3-5 years for a really good display.
