recovering 'hedge'

Along the north facing fence in our back garden I inherited a hydrangea petiolaris, a jasmine and an unknown white sinle small flowered rambler rose, I've added a clematis montana. While we were away, our neighbour hacked iot back (again) with shears or a hedge trimmer and chopped the whole top down, all on our side, not just what overhung their new fence(which is attached to the old one) they've cut it so hard that there is loads of dea material all over now, and I don't really know how to best help it recover, I haven't seen them yet, and will ask them to leave our side alone ( they also filled my green bin with the clippings in plastic bags which I've asked them not to do before) I'm also going to say I'll cut it back their side if they need me too as they just treat it like a hedge and lop away hard, I was so upset when we came nome, now I'm just very very cross! They don't do plants, just fence to fence artificioa; turf (yes we've got it but at least I got to widen the flower borders!) and a giant buddha statue (they're not buddhists...)help!!!

I think they are more than inconsiderate neighbours! And quite understand why you are an unhappy bunny.
However, I do think your plants will be ok, they are all fairly hardy ones. Just pick off the loose cuttings when they go brown and you can see them. .
Thanks Hogweed, it's really got to me, I saw the girl's mum yesterday and I said I thought they'd cut it back too much, she said, yes but they've left your rose, I should think so!!!! I doesn't overhang at all, it's tall but very upright, if they cut that they may well find Buddha decapitated!!! GRRRRRRR!!!!! fuel to my fire .. I want to move!!!!!!
Neighbours can be the pits. I have the opposite to you - a neighbour who does not cut the boundary hedge even though its his. I have had to cut it for the past 10+ years and its a mixed hedge so not so easy!!!
That's maybe what they think of me, though I would be happy to cut the right plants at the right time, eg I wanted to leave rosehips for the birds , and have flowers on the montana...
