Bare decking area

I have an area of decking at the bottom of my garden which looks very bare and I need inspiration. I am really asking what trees/bushes are best to grow in pots, for screening, as although the decking has fencing around it, I want to soften the area and best hidden from the neighbours?

  • Hi Peter. You haven't said whether your decking is in sun or shade, but I presume sun. Almost any shrub will grow successfully in a pot as long as it's kept well watered in dry periods, even small fruit trees. If you want a tropical feel you could try different coloured Phormiums, Yucca and Cordyline. Good luck

... as long as the container is big enough and the compost/growing medium the right sort for the job.  A shrub in a small pot with multi-purpose compost is doomed.
