Very large buddliea
My garden is suffering from a serious problem! The Buddliea which was an unintended addition has to go now. It is about 16 - 18 foot tall and quite wide. I nerd to kill it.
How can I best do this? The axe or some herbicide? It currently has a lot of foliage so thought I'd best ask, as the potion I normally needs to go in via the leaves?
Any advice is very welcome!
There are plants nearby I do not want to lose!
Thanks!

In my experience it's not a deep rooted shrub ... I'd cut it down and dig it out.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Thank you! I'll get to work then!
When cutting it down, assuming you have some decent sized trunks, leave these so they are 4' or so long and use them as levers to assist in the root removal.
Thanks both! My landlord fears for the garage it is next to and the trunk is a 4 to five inches thick at it's biggest!
It is lovely but it has had it's marching orders, the butterflies are amazing!
Even if you do chop it down and remove it completely I'd be amazed if it doesn't pop up again in the same area. We removed one of similar dimensions, and the next year a little 'un appeared. At least that can be kept under control.
