I thought it was going to be a rogue Sweet Rocket but I'm not so sure anymore.  I actually Chelsea chopped it earlier this year - now about to flower image

Flowering will help to confirm it, but it looks a lot like purple loosestrife.  Lythrum salicaria

Thanks FB.  That looks like the plant I see growing along railway embankments on my way to work along with the buddleia.  That would make some sense because I certainly didn't plant it there.

  • Hi All.  Just resurrecting this thread from a while back.  This 'weed' has now flowered and it is bright yellow.  My thought is that it might be Solidago.  Any thoughts?  I will try and get a picture tomorrow.

  • Solidago is a good shout, especially with it flowering in autumn. Any pics of the flowers?

  • Finally got some pictures

Yes, that does look like Solidago Canadensis.

  • Thanks Borderline.

It's actually rather nice.  Strange that it just popped up in the middle of my border.  I might try and relocate it to somewhere more suitable.

Yes, it's a good time to move them to another location if it's not where you like it. Just make sure they are watered in well and they will establish. Birds and wind can bring in these plants, they are known to adapt well in a number of locations. A welcomed splash of late summer colour.
