Help for a newbie! Leaves are turning brown and yellow

I have this plant indoors near a window. It gets indirect light only. I water it about once a week, I live in tropical hot climate. the plant was doing fine and even had some new growth recently. However a few days ago most of the tips of the leaves are now brown and beginning to turn yellow. what could it be? The plant is beautiful and I don't want it to die !

btw, I don't the name of the plant, does any of you know what is it?

thanks!

I think it's a Dieffenbachia ... How long have you had it?

It might have used all the nutrition in the compost and need repotting in fresh compost. It might also benefit from higher humidity levels so try misting a couple of times a week.

Keep it out of reach of small children as the leaves are toxic.

Think Dove is correct, where do you live, normally even in the UK they prefer shade.

Thanks to both. I live in the tropics ( Costa Rica ) and I've had the plant since February. how often do this plants need watering ? The soil is very moist so not sure if I may be overwatering it.

Let it dry out between waterings ... to check if it needs watering stick your finger in the compost up to the first joint ... if it's dry down there it needs watering.

However, although it doesn't want the soil to be sodden, it does need humidity so as I said, mist  it a couple of times a week.  If you can, use  rainwater at the ambient temperature to avoid shocking the plant with cold water.
