I noticed this singe white petal on my red dahlia today and wondered why this has happened. All the other flowers are all red.

A natural mutation or a sport. It is often how new varieties are spotted. Whether it is only in the one flower and is temporary or affects all, in which case it may be permanent.

I've had dozens of flowers on that plant but this is the first one to open like this. Many thanks.
Dahlia "War of the Roses" produces some red petals and some white, but in equal amounts and at random.
