I bought a beautiful large rhododendron in Spring but as I have heavy clay soil I kept it in a pot. Do I need to water and fertilise it now after flowering and how do I keep it safe through the winter?

Thank you both Doghouse Riley and Mike Allen. I will follow your precious advices. We also have a fishpond so I will use the water and sludge from the pond as a fertiliser. I will probably plant it in the ground adding lots of ericaceous compost to the clay soil. Hope this works!
