Identify and Improve plant

KweeglyKweegly Posts: 101

Hi Everyone,

I planted a climbing plant in a pot last quite a long time ago and I've forgot what type it was and was wondering if someone could identify it.

Also what can I do to improve the plant? The leaves don't look that great and it isn't really climbing much higher. I would like it to reach at least 6-8 feet tall but it has stopped at 4 feet tall.image

It's a Clematis, I don't know which one, there are several very similar. Someone else may have the very one and let you know.

Kweegly, its a Clematis that you have there. How long has it been in the pot?  Have you replenished the compost? Have you fed it? Some clematis are designed for pot growth whereas others prefer to be in the ground. It looks like a Clematis called Rouge Cardinal but many look very similar.

It's been in the pot for maybe 3 years, I haven't replaced the soil but I have used a general plant feed in water.

I suspect that despite the feed, the soil/compost has become 'exhausted' and the Clematis could do with some fresh, new stuff.
