What is this weed in the pond?

image

This fast multiplying weed has spread throughout one of my 4x6 ponds, floating in the top 2inches of water. I can't find anything like it online. Any ideas? It looks filamentous, but the leaves which tend to be in pairs or trefoils, are only linked in short runs, so it is hard to get out - a bit like duckweed!

If it is tropical, I assume the winter will kill it off, so I will leave it, bit if it's hardy I might have to scoop it all out manually. :(

    Ivy-leaved Duckweed (Lemna trisulca).

  • Wow! Thanks for the fast response Onopordum.

So, it's not too invasive and good in a wildlife pond. Perhaps I'll leave it to grow for a while.

It's not as troublesome as regular duckweed. Just scoop it out if it gets too numerous - it's fine in moderation.
