Cherry tree problems

I have an ornamental cherry tree which we planted about 2 months ago , it's a prunus Kiki shidare zakura tree , it looks like it is dying ,the leaves are turning brown and dropping off , it doesn't look healthy at all , its planted in my lawn ??? What can I do to save it ???image

    Juliet, it's probably been a bit too dry and the grass is growing too close to the trunk and competing with the tree for nutrients.  Make a wider circle around the trunk (about 1 metre diameter), give it a good watering (at least 4 bucketfuls of water) and cover the ground where you removed the grass with a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost.  You should also snip off all of those weak branches below the label close to the trunk (don't leave a stub.)  Do this now and no more pruning until next summer (never prune in Autumn, Winter or Spring as you risk it getting silver leaf disease.)

    Keep giving it a couple of buckets of water at least twice a week until the leaves drop.

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
