Could it be a fig-leaved hollyhock?
Buttercup you have just solved a problem for me without even knowing, I have a plant in the garden which I was sure was a hollyhock but I thought the leaves where the wrong shape, didn't know there was such a thing as a fig leaved one,
Sorry for interrupting your thread Lynn Plant-Wells.
No problem Chrissy! I was about to pull it out so do hope it's a hollyhock. I have 'regular' ones in my front garden - they have the fungal infection. I was on hols when they started getting it so didn't manage to treat them.

I would say thats a weed Lyn. if it were a Hollyhock it would have buds on it by now, keep an eye on it and don't let it self seed.
Could be wrong, but I don't think so. Weeds grow up very much quicker than plants.
My suspicions. It did grow fairly quickly - although I was away for a month - and no flowers/buds in sight. Wonder what kind of weed it is? Big leaves!
