leaf curl

We have a lovely mature shrub tree as pictured which has suddenly developed patches of leaf curl where the leaves curl and dry although on other areas new leaves are growing. Is this lack of water/too much water or a disease.
Should I cut it back or feed it or both?

By the way I don't know the name of this plant it was here when we moved in!
It looks like a healthy smoke bush - cotinus.
The leaf damage is likely caused by water on the leaf then strong sunshine burning it off - nothing to worry about.
