Azalea has brown spots on leaves

imageCan anyone help, our potted Azalea has developed brown spots on it's leaves, I water it when the top 2 inches of soil is dry and it is in a spot that gets sun in the evening. We planted with ericaceous compost.

Please help as we love this shrub.

Well done on circumnavigating the photo glitch Chris image

Looks like it could be a fungal problem. I don't feel knowledgeable enough to give advice on a spray on treatment, I'll leave that to the experts.

I generally remove any diseased leaves on plants to stop the spread, and give it a bit of TLC of water, feed and mulch.

Hi thanks for replying! I would remove the leaves, but I'd be worried about taking that amount of leaves off in one go.

Could it be from over watering as when we first bought the plant, we did water it near enough every other day and we only bought it around 2 months ago.

Could be a case of Anthracnose Black Spot , which commonly affects Rhododendrons (syn.Azalea) .

I don't think it presents serious long-term issues ; keep the plant healthy by generous watering (rainwater only) , generous feeding with low-nitrogen fertiliser . keep an eye on your pots soil pH especially if you live in  a hard-water area .Any prematurely fallen leaves should be disposed of or burnt immediately .

You could remove carefully the infected leaves and begin treatment with a good fungicide . I have always found Bayer fungus fighter to be useful ; good luck !
