The short answer is I don't know, but... I've made some this year for the first time, and like comfrey tea, it smells awful, so I don't know how you could tell if it's gone off! Nettles are rich in nitrogen which promotes leafy growth, so I suppose you could chuck away whatever you haven't used at the end of the growing season and make a fresh lot when the nettles re-appear. I keep my nettle and comfrey teas in a fridge which I'm lucky enough to have in my garage. But I don't know if it makes any difference.
Hi there Chunky, I'm no expert either but I regularly make nettle and comfrey 'tea' and to get the best results it is best used in the same year it is made. It's still OK the following year but not as useful as a fertiliser, makes a brilliant composter at the end of the season though, just tip the remains on your heap/in your bin and start fresh next spring.
I use nettle 'tea' for my herbs and comfrey for the veg as it is a better balance for fruit production, as I say, no expert as this is all from trial and error (lots of error) over several years.
