Apple trees baby ones

I'm not the most experienced Gardner but I hope you can help me last year  a tree started to grow in my garden,I thought it's an apple but wasn't sure it's grown  very quickly this year. 

 Now I have another three saplings (  I hope that's the right terminology ) which I haven't Planted,  I took a Leaf  to my local nursery and the guy there said it was an apple tree but he didn't know what  variety no apples on them. 

I've lived in this house 11 years about 50 years ago it  used to be an orchard,  is it possible that these sapplings would start growing it's so weird. 

 I could post a photo if need be I'm just confused there is no fruit
