Looks like Gorse, or whin as we call it up here. Ulex. It's lethal stuff! Are you sure you want it in your garden? It makes a good barrier and windbreak if you're in an exposed, coastal area, but I doubt you'll find it for sale in many GCs or nurseries. Perhaps one of the hedging specialists online will stock it.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Ooh nice Chrissy. I love seeing it when I'm out walking, and it flowers for such a long time. It was out very early up here this year - I was seeing it over winter too
I've never looked to see if the nursery I use sells it, although I seem to remember my sister buying some several decades ago. Must have been to keep the neighbours out

3 Fat Pigs Nursery sells it in hedging quantities. (I've never used them but a friend has and he was happy with the service and quality). Be carefull if there are cattle about as it chokes them apparently.
CTG could you send me the details of yours (and do you do mail order?) please? I'm checking it out as a fence replacement. Thanks.
Hi plant pauper, I don't know if CTG applies to me but if it does I live in the south west and the nursery I was referring to only sell Ulex in 2ltr pots so could be a bit expensive for hedging.

You can find it in nurserys fairygirl the one I work at sells a lovely sort which has double petaled flowers and smells deliciously of coconut.
yes it is VERY spiky so you do have to be careful where you plant it.

Fairygirl, there's a saying: "When gorse is out of flower, kissing is out of fashion."
