A small orchid?

nenenene Posts: 6

We have lived in our home for only a year and since the warmer weather has come, the lawn has grown, it seems to have grown some beautiful flowers, therefore have not mowed it for the wildlife which it is attracting. In the midst of it have brown some beautiful purple flowers and I am wondering whether these are small orchids which are growing here as I've not seen them before, could anyone identify themimage?

  • It almost certainly looks like an orchid from the petal shape. As a best guesstimate for flowering at this time of year, thinking along the lines of Dactylorhiza majalis (Western Marsh Orchid).

We have just moved up to Scotland, so is all rather new for us in many ways. I also have never seen a 'meadow' flourish in the back garden like this, it is truly special, thank you for your identification too, I will look into it.
