What tree is this

purplerallimpurplerallim Posts: 4,861

This is a new garden and as the only tree in my last one was a holly am just checking what I have. These trees loose leaf in the winter have white flowers in spring and berries now July. It is confusing me because all the books say this tree should have red berries, mine are black. I think it is a Hawthorn. Do you agreeimage

Well, it looks like a hawthorn to me too image

But it seems early for ripe berries on a hawthorn ... can we have a look at them please?

Have checked and the berries look right but the leaves are not lobed deeply enough.  Have been trying to put a better picture on but system won't let me .

Sometimes you need to reduce the size of the photo then it will upload.

I suppose that it might be a hybrid between the black berried one and something more common?

I was wondering about that myself. They are old trees the garden was an apple orchard before the eighties but these survived the building along with an 80 foot ash tree. They could be a cross.
