Pruning a sambucca negra

BuffalogalBuffalogal Posts: 23

I have a lovely and healthy black sambucca which is just coming to the end of flowering and I'm wondering how and when to prune. It's about 10 foot in height and 8 foot wide and is beginning to get just too big But I don't want to ruin it.

Normally pruned in Spring before growth starts.

Early Spring pruning is usual, but they're tough plants and you'll do no harm pruning almost any time of year. But if you prune hard, you'll probably get no flowers the following year.
I trim mine back a lot every year (mine is about 8ft) and occasionally take it right back to about 2ft, I'll get no flowers the following year, but it'll still grow fast
