Indoor Parlour Palm now too tall

My Parlour Palm is now touching the ceiling and has all the leaves at the top 2 feet with a long leafless stem underneath. If I wrap a bag of moist potting compost around the bare stem about halfway up, will it root?

OTHERS MAY HAVE.
IF THE WORST CAME TO THE WORST YOU COULD ALWAYS REMOVE A SECTION OF FLOORBOARDS.
