Ants on a Cherry tree

I have a Stella Cherry tree. It has always had ants farming the aphids but now I find the ants are burrowing into the cherries and it is rather horrible when you see a lovely ripening cherry only to realise it has been invaded! I trim off the leaves with the aphids on. I have tried a home made grease band but the ants happily walk over it. Has anyone any advice?
