Hi there seem to have some problems with our hedge a friend thought he was helping by cutting it for us and now it dosent look healthy... I have put fresh soil and cow dung down with no luck

    how recently was it cut? it can take a while to come back. how fresh was the manure? if less than 6 months old you could have burned the hedge as manure can be too high in some nutrients that's why it gets left to 'mature'

    however i'm assuming that's a box hedge? could it be the start of box blight?

  • Thanks ...the hedge was here when we moved in so at least 4 years old and it was cut 3 weeks ago.... not sure what kind of hedge it is

    A hedge that has been brutally cut back will not looks its best for a while and it shouldn't really need a load of manure unless the soil is horribly poor and depleted. You have to give it time to recover. However it looks like box and you would certainly be wise to keep an eye on it as it could be suffering from blight. The recent hot weather may also be a factor. Just be patient and don't expect instant improvement.
