Giant Hogsweed

Hi all,

I am a secondary school teacher in the North East. I recently noticed a large leafed weed grow in a disused area (out of bounds). Within a week it has grown over 7' tall. It has a dark purple stem and florets of hundreds of white flowers.

I took photos to share to help to get a positive identification but cant seem to upload on this forum.

Tthanks

Resize your photos to something around 1200 pixels. Then use the camera icon.

Are the stems purple blotched and smooth as opposed to ridged, hairy and green as in the Common Hogweed?

do the leaves have spikey edge or are they slightly rounded, a photo would be really useful

I can provide photos of both giant and common.  Let me know if you need them.
